Colas have an exciting opportunity for an Estimator/QS with highways construction experience to join the team in Grantham, compiling estimates for Surface Treatments & Recycling and highways infrastructure projects for both external clients and internal business units. Autonomously undertaking estimates in line with client requirements with direction from senior members of the operations & preconstruction team, whilst ensuring compliance with Colas Ltd s ethical working practices and estimating procedures.

Main Responsibilities

As an experienced estimator you will work to produce accurate and compliant tenders and quotations with due account of risks and opportunities present as agreed with the appropriate delegate during tender commission, adhering to the approved estimating process and ensuring stage gates are observed when appropriate, provide content for governance process in a timely and considered manner, maintain the accuracy of library rates appropriate for the estimate, ensure that a comprehensive handover is undertaken, and commercial and operational teams have an appropriate understanding of the estimate, ensure all documents and spreadsheets used in the production of estimates are appropriately archived / saved to SharePoint upon tender closedown, aid in the development of junior team members as required.

Contribute to business development in own area of expertise, maintain an up-to-date awareness of Colas Ltd business processes and procedures and ensure continued compliance within own area of discipline. Conduct all duties and responsibilities in a manner that appropriately and adequately supports the group image and code of ethics and promote the safety imperative, undertake the appropriate of Management Safety Observations as set in annual targets. Promote and enhance safety awareness in the business, encouraging a zero tolerance to unsafe acts and a zero target for LTIs.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong awareness of civil engineering / surfacing, planning / organisational qualities, strong in the use of estimating software / MS suite of software, a willingness to assist in the development of others have excellent written and oral communication skill, able to achieve and be results driven, client focused with regular dialogue and interaction Internal and external, good knowledge of the industry, be a problem solver and analytical thinker.

You will also be qualified/hold the following:

  • Appropriate higher education qualification in Construction / Civil Engineering
  • GCSE Math / English or equivalent A to C
  • Experienced in a similar or equivalent role
  • Suitable construction qualification and training course attendance
  • Full driving license
  • Good level of experience in highway construction and maintenance in estimating capacity
