Key Responsibilities of the Estimator
- Business Development: Build strong client relationships and explore new opportunities.
- Accurate Estimating: Produce detailed, precise estimates and input them into estimating software.
- Collaboration: Work with the estimating team, buyers, and operations teams at tender and project planning stages.
- Quotation Evaluation: Appraise mechanical quotations for technical and commercial compliance.
- Design Support: Assess buildability, materials, and cost-effectiveness during design development.
- Procurement: Prepare enquiries and secure competitive quotes from suppliers and sub-contractors.
- Governance: Ensure compliance with risk and governance procedures.
- Financial Models: Develop financial models and high-quality estimates for large-scale projects.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on technical advancements and new methods in the industry.
- Education: Ideally a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (preferred but not essential).
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in M&E or similar sectors, with proven estimating expertise.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in cost estimation, tender preparation, and bid submissions.
- Sector Knowledge: Strong background in residential or commercial projects.
- Skills: Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Tools: Proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Excel.
- Work Ethic: Highly motivated with a professional attitude and strong attention to detail.
- Salary: £60,000 - £95,000 (DOE).
