This Civil Design Engineer will report to the Principal Civil Design Engineer and will work within UKPN Services based in our London office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of 58,229 plus Inner London Allowance 5,399.59 and a bonus of 3%

You will satisfy the following general requirements with some guidance:

  • Production for approval of civil and structural designs for tender, construction, and commissioning of electricity networks assets.
  • Ensure the designs produced eliminate or reduce hazards which may give rise to risks.
  • Ensure compliance with design assurance and audit processes.
  • Oversee and contribute to the production of technical, commercial, and contractual documents for procurement of engineering products.
  • Assess third-party construction works affecting electricity network assets.
  • Comply with the requirements of the designer according to the CDM regulations.
  • Provide technical liaison with suppliers and clients for delivering projects.
  • Production for approval of civil designs following the policies of UK Power Networks Services and to the latest British Standards, ESQCR, the Building Regulations, fire safety rules.
  • Support and mentor Trainee/Graduate colleagues to enhance their technical knowledge.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with operational teams to guarantee a smooth process from initial enquiry through the final connection and business closure.
  • Deal with contractors during the construction phase on behalf of the Project Manager.
  • Work in close liaison with structural and electrical engineers, quantity surveyors and CAD technicians.
  • Competence in resolving civil engineering issues and ability to provide a sound understanding of policies.
  • Awareness of current and technological developments in civil / structural engineering.
  • Work with external engineering organisations and clients.
  • Work under minimum guidance.
  • Team player in a dedicated team of designers, estimators, and planners
  • Safety culture and understanding of CDM and their application in this role. IOSH training would be beneficial.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to MSc in Civil Engineering degree level or equivalent.
  • Civil engineering experience and building works preferably within the Utility sector.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite, e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Manage and communicate packages of work for the CAD team to develop.
  • Knowledge of AutoDesk suite, e.g. Revit, Robot, Civil3D.
  • Beneficial experience: roadworks, drainage, structural steel works, cable routes, substation buildings, structures to support outdoor distribution equipment, fences and high security features, secondary oil containment, building services, ventilations systems, fire suppression systems, drainage systems.
  • Work towards becoming a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
